Perhaps an unpopular opinion around here, but as far as I am concerned, this is a separate form of piracy that I believe in. This guy was actively making tons of money, selling to people who were not only willing to pay artists for their work, but were unaware they were purchasing a bootleg in the first place. This type of behaviour only gives weight large corporations’ arguments when they attack people who share replications of digital files/rips. I think his sentencing is fair.

I honestly can’t understand this, copying records must take a huge amount of time and machinery, not to mention vinyl. Seems like a crazy thing to start doing

sold counterfeit copies of records by some of the world’s biggest artists I would imagine he would not be selling my albums, which would get them a dollar (I would buy a copy myself)

Its fine piracy isnt theft and these people weren’t going to buy the full priced product anyway

One thing stuck out to me in two ways. Here is the quote: “wider harm to the music industry”. First, you are so out to touch, the music industry lost pennies. Second, the people who REALLY go fucked was the consumer. This dood was out here scamming you and I, not some trillion dollar conglomerate. This isn’t even piracy IMO, it’s just a scam. It reminds me of those preloaded ROM boxes you get off aliexpress. They have up to PS games but anything after 16bit and it locks up or the frame rate is less than 1fps.
