A backlink is not a permanent asset simply because it was published once. Pages can be edited, removed, redirected, blocked from crawling, or allowed to expire. That makes ongoing monitoring essential.
Track at least these fields for every placement:
- Live page title and URL
- Referring domain
- Destination URL
- Anchor text
- Publication date
- Link type and placement
- Indexation status
- Last health check
- Notes about redirects, removals, or content changes (24/40)

Backlink health monitoring should flag meaningful changes. A link that returns an error, points to an unexpected destination, or disappears from the page deserves attention. A page that remains live but becomes disconnected from its original topic may also need review. (25/40)
