  @simon_brooke@mastodon.scot if you are concerned that you may have a corner case, either apply to the original authors for a parallel licence, or do a clean room reimplantation from scratch. And you don't think that this imposes friction for downstream users? You are not entitled to profit from the gifts of another, unless you abide by the conditions of gift. And there we have it, summed up concisely. You care about giving a gift, not building a community. You are creating a two tier environment where there are givers of gifts and recipients of gifts. Givers of gifts make the rules, recipients of gifts do what they're told or fuck off. And you wonder why so many people don't want to be part of the kind of community that this creates.
