I think it’s a bit the other way around. GNU, Linux and the Free Software community are very much about this copyright thing. We know it’s not right to do it like the other big companies so we try to make an effort here to make it not weigh down on the users or have the people steal, or abuse their power?!

No, you miss the point. GPL is not a feelgood license. It is a license that tries to make the licensed piece of work better by exploiting the fact that the more it is used, the more it is likely that someone can improve it for everybody. So large corporations will contribute back their tweaks and everyone profits. It is not some kind of utopic hack

Citations needed! The Free Software movement grew out of opposition to proprietary software, in a world where there was no copyright all software would be Free Software.
