I just quit my job. We have a dotnet application running that I didn’t write, but I’m the only one who knows a little dotnet, so I took care of it. My handover will be this, or “learn dotnet”.

Hey, at least you got documentation! That’s more than I got at my last job.

It is exact opposite of what you think it means the second time, btw.

  • This is gramatically correct in some languages with double negatives, such as Czech.

Double negatives are fun! It’s a little weird how, depending on the context and language, they can either be positive or negative. “I don’t see nothing!” is often used to mean you can’t see anything, the double negatives reinforce each other rather than cancel out into a positive meaning. Similar for “I don’t have no …” or “we don’t need no …”

Play it safe. You never know how long you’ll have the chance, so best to switch if off immediately. It’s the only way to be sure.

I took over a project recently. I asked for updating instructions… as in “once I make changes, how do I push to prod?” They gave me instructions on how to update angular and dotnet packages. Mother FUCKERS. I spent time digging around the code, setting up my dev env, and then I noticed dev and prod had a slight difference. “yeah, we gave you the wrong branch” Fuck. I had to dig around and find out how they started the docker on prod and then I could replace the .dll and restart the container. It was not fun.
