Schaft was arrested at a Nazi checkpoint on March 25, 1945. Though she had dyed her hair to conceal her identity as the girl with red hair, her red roots gave away her identity. She was executed 3 weeks prior to the end of the war, on April 17, 1945. She was 24 years old. (4/6)

She is one of the most recognized women of the antifascist resistance during WW2. A film, Het Meisje met het Rode Haar, directed by Ben Verbong was released in 1981 and a musical with the same name premiered Oct 2015.
