Racism offers a simple solution to a complex problem: you are poor or alone. Powerful people convince you that it's (Black people)'s fault that you are poor. They convince you that if you just hate them enough, it will fix all of your problems. But hate though you may, you still remain just as poor.
In the moment, hate makes you feel strong. It makes you forget how poor you are. If you're wealthy, it might give you a sense of community or a maladaptive outlet for your frustrations elsewhere in your life. Either way, it gives you a sense of power and belonging.
The problem is that hate doesn't solve problems. It only creates problems. You may be insulated from the most of these problems, but your ability to see the world becomes warped. You don't know how to fix problems anymore, you only know how to blame and point fingers.
