@kcarruthers@infosec.exchange Quebec was a French colony originally, and was ceded to the UK after the Seven Years War. (Wars were shorter back then...) I guess France kept the islands *quick google* No, they gained the islands _back_ after the Seven Years War (presumably as a trade for Quebec; pretty uneven, but losing wars has consequences). Then a bunch of changing hands before settling into French hands for good in 1816. Honestly, given how widespread the French colonies are, I think I'd be more surprised if they didn't have a colony in the North Atlantic somewhere...
