the plot is very simple in the sequel, an alien race travels back in time to kill a giant dna strand so it can split off and create a timeline where the earth is an industrialized slaughterhouse and you have to travel forward with millions of years into the future to travel in the past to prevent the death and then trap the vortex queen in the past using atlantis time travel technology which then leads to the vortex evolving alongside earth life and becoming humans
