Revisiting Vonnegut, who satirised *right now* back in the mid-60s:
Fascism, racism, communism & absurd, confused ideas of patriotism in contemporary USA.
And how ruthless lawyers and the establishment try to frame a billionaire as insane because he wants to help people and share his wealth.

@Richard_Littler@mastodon.social You might also want to read Richard Condon. The first Trump presidency was very much "Prizzi's Glory", the third book in the series, in which the Mafia family gets plastic surgery and take over the White House. (This term is going above and beyond even Condon's ability to satirize Imperial America, admittedly.)

@Richard_Littler@mastodon.social I'm currently reading God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater for the first time since my 20s (in the 2000s) and I knew it was still relevant back then, but it's amazing/depressing how relevant it still is today.
