I’ve run across three fics in my bookmarks that have been deleted! 3!! And I’m only 5 pages into my bookmarks from most recent back! And I’m pretty sure these have been deleted recently because I’m pretty sure based on where they are in my bookmarks list that they’re all for ships I reread frequently right now so I would have noticed if they’d been deleted for more than maybe a month. Only one has a note from me and it’s unfortunately not specific enough for me to remember which fic. I understand sometimes people want t separate themselves from their past fics for various reasons. But I wish more people would just orphan them instead of deleting them. I never know which ones they are and I’m always wondering if the deleted ones are favorites I’ve forgotten about or ones I rarely read. I have some favorites downloaded, but I honestly have too many damn bookmarks to download them all at this point. I’d need to start my own fucking archive just to keep track of them. And I don’t want to do that when AO3 is doing such a stellar job already of doing that for me. And I’m still reading those fics damnit! As a writer I would never delete a fic from the archive, even if I hated it and never wanted to see it again. I know my fics are important to other people and also I’m an archivist at heart so when something is in an archive I’m like “it should be in there forever. For posterity” and shit. Even if it needs to be hidden for a while, or have my name taken off of it. Even my worst fic mistake .
