Here’s an extremely frustrating situation I’m running into now, with all the over-saturation of the musical streaming universe. I’ve been having this problem for the past maybe 5 years or so, and I finally got an answer (by a very helpful AI chatbot of all things; humans have just never gotten back to me when I sent in emails):
When I release (on my own, without a formal label) a new or remastered track or album, my music always gets flagged by the automated ID system of the big platforms, meaning I can’t ever have my music monetized if someone uses it on YouTube or TikTok or other social media. And I’ve tried to see if I can appeal, but it looks like I never get an answer because THERE IS NO APPEAL PROCESS!! 🤬
So all of us independent creators are just completely outta luck when the automated systems falsely flag us as borrowing elements from another recording. The whole system is clamping down because nobody wants to bother dealing with copyright claims anymore, false or otherwise, so they just lock us out.
Stack that on top of Spotify’s rule to only pay out if a track hits 1,000 listens within a 12-month window, and platforms like Amazon not even letting Alexa bring up results for artists without enough listeners. You ask her to play my music, and she literally says, "I can’t find an artist by that name."
Ugh this is all extremely frustrating. I hate feeling helpless and deliberately, unjustifiably shoved out of the ecosystem. 😣
