@cstross@wandering.shop @skewray@mathstodon.xyz @dougmerritt@mathstodon.xyz you (half?) joke but I would not be surprised if that biz model is already de facto happening. it has not been lost on me, when doing Red Team analysis of the industry that, curioisly enough, all those so-called Good Guy cybersecurity firms have talent/tools on staff that, while ostensibly being used on the good side, are the same skills/code needed by bad guys. so they can monetize on both sides of the ethical/legal spectrum. one a proper biz in public view, the other in form of an anonymous "hacker group" (or APT) exploiting vulns, stealing PII/IP and installing ransomware afterall who better to know how to leave a "get away scot free" crime scene than... a detective?
