my ambition in life was to become an astronaut. as a kid I was headfirst into space stuff, went to space camp, all that. then I found out I'd never be able to qualify on account of my poor eyesight and I don't think I've ever really recovered from that

first it was "oh picks you're so smart, you can be anything" then it was "anything that doesn't require perfect eyesight" then "anything that doesn't require you to get on well with others" which is pretty much nothing, as it turns out
