I had to install Windows 11 on a laptop that was running Arch Linux (don’t ask me why—I’m really pissed off about this), and it was the worst user experience I’ve had in years. 1) The laptop's touchpad didn't work; I had to use a USB mouse. 2) Windows 11 didn't recognize the M.2 drive. Why? No fucking idea. You have to download some drivers (not the typical .exe file, but their .sys, .cat, .info, etc.), insert another USB drive with them, and install them during the W11 installation process. 3) By default, it won't let you continue the installation without an Internet connection. To get around this, you have to press Shift+F10 and run a command I found on a forum. 4) After the installation drama finally ended, I’m left with a system where the laptop's touchpad still doesn't work and the Wi-Fi network card isn’t detected. I have to install the drivers manually. "Windows is easier than Linux". My ass! #Windows11 #Linux

@alejandrobdn@social.linux.pizza surely this is a premature April Fools' joke! Don't you dare tell me you can use Loonix (in the 21st century) without using the terminal! (This was sarcasm btw)

@alejandrobdn@social.linux.pizza The "Windows is easier than Linux" thing regarding installation mainly stems from the fact that (nearly) all computers come with Windows pre-installed. So "normal" Windows user typically never install Windows.

  • @alejandrobdn@social.linux.pizza My wife's gaming computer ran windows for a while (so did mine, but I bought one with win already installed - luckily we're both back in linux with proper usability again now). To install windows she had to temporarily install a spinning hdd and then copy the install over, because windows 10 couldn't install onto a sata ssd. It is such a bad experience.
