@adrianhon I’m all for being critical of YC and HN, but I don’t think this is too egregious of a moderation fault or done with ill-intent. It is fairly common for extremely popular items that aggressively shoot up the frontpage to go missing, only to then be restored shortly thereafter, as this thread was. HN has a flamewar detector that triggers in these situations. One of the main heuristics for the detector is the comment-to-upvote ratio, which a discussion-provoking article such as this would have tripped. The mods get an email when the detector trips, so they usually make adjustments pretty quick. Indeed, it seems that is what happened here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47667481
