We are looking into the possibility of creating a #Luanti for Edu/Kids edition which would be a new app on the play store and a new download from luanti.org. It will (1) provide tools for parents/teachers to manage kids (2) achieve a lower age rating, aiming for age 6. We're looking to get in touch with someone who know about age ratings and our obligations. Perhaps someone from #IARC/#USK/another board who also knows about open source. Does anyone have any connections we could talk to?

@Luanti Wouldn’t that be a PERFECT opportunity to massively extend the game’s possibilities regarding client customization and setup/permissions, instead of creating a new client in parallel to the currently existing client?

This would be amazing! Luanti (formerly Minetest) has so much potential for educational use. Would love to see curated content and simplified UI for younger learners. 🎓🎮

  • @Luanti For youth-targeted projects using #luanti / #minetest, common measures I had to implement included: * a locked down `builtin/mainmenu/` * regulated messaging/chat * regulated PvP This seems to tackle the issues pointed out by the German video game rating organisation #usk (https://usk.de/game-creator-plattformen-auf-dem-pruefstand-aenderung-der-alterskennzeichen-bei-unzureichendem-jugendschutz/), which might also apply to other jurisdictions. As far as I know, similar approaches can be seen in various edu-related efforts. It would be really great to get these efforts certified.
