This world where the top 0.1% of the richest people have hidden more money from taxes than the poorest 50% own, and Jeff Bezos—just like his billionaire buddies—decided once again today that world hunger doesn’t need to be solved. This world where a woman is murdered by a partner or family member every 10 minutes, and one in three women has experienced sexual violence. This world where the climate catastrophe is happig now, while governments seem to have given up even the pretense of wanting to do anything about it. That is the world Rutger Bregman describes as populated mainly by kind and cooperative people. It is a joyful message for those who want to hear it, but above all, it is pissing on the suffering of others from a tower built out of privilege. For God’s sake, go do something useful instead of writing or reading this.
