You also cannot own a firearm without a massive paper trail leading back to your identity, address, face and family history. You literally cannot own a firearm without being part of an ID system that lets them track down every gun owner that has ever lived or dared to pay tax. That's one aspect that people tend to forget. Surveillance is another form of gun control, a more indirect but arguably more effective.
