Problem: in the days and years ahead there will be power and communications disruptions. The cellular network or even the internet may fail for days or weeks. Two way radio is a cheap and reliable way to keep the community together during these times, but how do you get people into it without being That Weirdo?
Approach: Halloween is coming! It’s the one day of the year when children are still allowed to walk in the streets after dark and talk to strangers. And even adults will commit to the bit when there is spooky shit
Make it something fun with FRS because that’s the lowest common denominator?
How do we make this happen without being, ah, creepy?

@flyingsaceur@ioc.exchange By not doing it. Just mind your business, leave all the other adults to mind theirs. Worry about your family, long as they're set, there will be plenty of time to deal with "community" when and IF it's needed. or to put it another way: most people cannot work a debit card reader successfully on the first try from one hour to the next. They for sure are not going to remember how to use an ht, let alone remember to charge it, leading up to whatever big emergency you're fantasizing about hams saving the day in.
