@woolfhound @eruwero @scalzi It's not even that they're smart. They're either lying or delusional about AGI, the same they are about AI (which before they misappropriated the term for marketing was what we now call AGI).
The architecture and infrastructure they're creating just isn't capable of real intelligence, and 'more power' is... entirely opposite to the intelligent systems we know exist. We only burn about a hundred watts ourselves so our brains use less than that. We *do* know storage and processing is very tightly coupled in our brains. What they're creating still has too much latency and it's too unstable and it's running into physical limits. I liken it to trying to build a modern CPU out of vacuum tubes - you'd need a Manhattan sized dara center, huge amounts of electricity and ultimately it wouldn't work due to component failures and speed of light limitations.
What they want to do is vendor lock in. They want people using their products so that they're too big to fail. Where they have to be bailed out, or there's no amount of the product being terrible that makes people switch away. They want a free license to make cheap knockoffs of people's works so they don't have to pay people smarter than them to create shiny pictures.
The whole AGI buzz is a distraction. It's to pretend the threat is something else, like a robber pulling a fire alarm so they can steal your stuff after you evacuate. The tech does not support AGI and the threat is elsewhere.
