Thanks for this, Sri. 🙏 It's important for those of us who engage in forms of racism that don't look like racism to examine our own behaviour and the platforms we participate in.
This isn't a fun read. But if you're white and on Mastodon, take the time to at least bookmark it or add it to your podcast listening list. Read it in a cafe. Listen to it on a long walk sometime. Take the time to hear the voices this platform does not amplify.
Skip to the halfway mark if you don't want to read/hear about Twitter. The latter-half is Mastodon-specific.

@deobald Looks good. I'd also be curious if people have good updates on what has been going on in the three years since this was written. My default assumption is there is still racism on Mastodon (because white people, if you want the slightly flippant three word summary), but I have been attempting to support those who are trying to do something about it, and we also have the rise of Blacksky, Black-only sites which federate in a much more limited way, and I presume other stuff going on for other communities.
