I've come to the conclusion that people who describe Trump as playing multi-dimensional chess are the same people who say "God works in mysterious ways" when something awful happens that a loving God obviously should have prevented. (Like a second Trump presidency.) It is a way of acknowledging that they don't understand how anything complex works and they are not interested in finding out, but there just HAS to be a grander plan.
