@computersandblues SpotTube is interesting-- it is a multiplatform client that allows you to listen to Spotify for free. It sources its music from YouTube, so bear in mind that not all music is on YT and some of the music on there is music videos and live recordings. But the big benefit is you can use an existing account to keep playlists, or just cruise around without ads or an account and just have music. The other thing I use is VLC and jump on to the Ice Cast radio stations. Hundreds of free radio stations that you can't get many other places, many without ads. Great for just putting on while you're working.

@computersandblues yeah sad, on flathub all i see is a yt/peertube only client, and an wrapped version of newpipe for android which looks like its gonna feel funky and unfun

@computersandblues I use Pipeline. Not sure if it works well for audio. It does the job for video.
