The bizzarro-land ethical conundrum of "should we let people just buy political influence with cash just so movies like 'Melania don't need to be made."
I'm thinking about this from an artistic harm-reduction perspective.

@mhoye@mastodon.social I dunno. In this era of electronic distribution, it's not like there's going to be a landfill of DVDs that need to be buried afterward. A bunch of people got paid, which is rare in this economy, and a bunch of sycophants lost money, which is also a nice change. I expect the movie to eventually "leak" and get remixed into a million parodies which will generate some art. It's like finding out that you can melt down confederate statues to make pennies.

@mhoye@mastodon.social Today's cynical and uncomfortable thought: is the movie political influence or a demonstration of fealty? It feels sort of like, say, building big statues back in medieval times.
