Been another eventful week around the "new" house. Got the shed built. What a pain in the ass metal sheds are. This one was no different. Shout-out to whoever decided it was a great idea to plastic wrap every painted panel like they were PC case panels. I hope you stub a pinky toe every other day for the rest of your life. With that done, next task was to put up the shelf frames I brought with me. Was able to get 3 shelves cut out of the former back porch ramp plywood. Got 3 more from other stuff I had. Finally time to decompress the 2nd bedroom as well as move all the stuff sitting out back into the shed. 10x6 isn't small, but it's also no 10x10. Still, everything I wanted to get put away fits with some room to spare. 2nd bedroom next. Rebuilt all the wire metal shelves we brought over and stacked up all of partner's sewing supplies. .. Almost. Three 6 ft shelves and still not quite enough. Now curious how she hid it all in the RV, lol. Got workbenches set up for each of us, sewing table for her, electronics repair for me. Still need to figure out the power routing. Only 2 receptacles in there and one is connected to a switch. Wednesday morning I heard the tiny cries of a kitten. There's a bunch of stray/loose cats in this place. Saw a tuxedo-ish saggy belly mom walking down nextdoor's drive on the cams. Figured it came from their place somewhere. That evening, partner was out back, garden planning. She came in "the kittens are under our house." Went out and pulled off one of the skirting panels. Stuck my head and flashlight into the crawlspace and started looking. Sure enough, there's the mama I saw earlier. Can hear 2 babies, pretty quickly saw them. Started calling and the babies actually came. Got them into a bin, partner contacted a friend who fosters, while I tried in vain to entice mom over. Then I heard a 3rd baby. Can't see it. Went to the back and pulled another panel. Still can't see it.. but I can see there's several places the canvas has failed and insulation has fallen out. Sigh. 1/2 #DIY

  • Got dressed in jeans and a long sleeve shirt, gloves, partner tied a fabric scrap on my head to keep shit outta my hair. Took the flashlight and started crawling. First stop was 10 feet over to a vent that I knew wasn't connected cause I'd had to reset the pole it was braced by and it pulled right out. At the time, I couldn't see what it was supposed to be attached to. Now I could, and was somewhat concerned a kitten could have fallen into the pipe. Thankfully not. Got the vent back onto the pipe and moved on Crawled my way to the middle of the house, where the axles still reside. Mama moved away from me as I approached. Kitten louder now but still not sure where it is. Got to about where the wall between bathroom/2nd bedroom is and looked up into the rather large opening in the floor. Looking back at me was the tiny face of 3rd kitten. Adjusted my position into a kneel and reached out into the space, as the kitten started to retreat. Was close, but was able to just stretch enough to catch it by its little tail and pull it back, get a good grip on it. Twisted around and resumed a prone position, crawled my way back to the rear of the house, passed out the baby and then exited. Fun times. She took the 3rd in to reunite it with its sibs. I got to work fixing the skirting back in place/filling in holes so this wouldn't be a recurring thing. Left the panel on the side off so mama could leave. She still just stared at us, no intentions of coming near. Went in, no word from friend yet. Babies have settled down in the bin, on a towel. Bottle of warm water to cuddle with. We have 4 cats already, so babies must go, ASAP. They spent the night in the 2nd bdr. Happened to have kitten wet food, mixed it with a little egg yolk and got a couple of them to eat some. Friend got back to us next morning and picked them up a few hours later. Mama had left, so I closed up the crawlspace. She came back and hung around for a day or so, but that was it. She's already moved on, lol. She got free child care ๐Ÿคฃ

@blackknight95857669@social.linux.pizza When I was young, I built a metal shed with my grandpa. Still get PTSD from this. And I still have some scars. ๐Ÿ˜– The kittens are cute ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
