Happy launch anniversary JWST!
The telescope launched on December 25, 2021 on an Ariane 5 rocket from the European Spaceport near Kourou, French Guiana.
Thanks to the hard work of the people at ESA, JWST had a fantastic start to its trip out to its parking spot 1.5 million km away at L2.

I will note that in the run-up to launch, as the date was pushed back a few times and it was looking more and more likely that it would be in late December, I was told that JWST would launch any day except Christmas Day. The workers at the Spaceport would not work the holiday. I'm glad they made an exception.
