I've been attempting to configure Vim-Classic in a way that works for my taste. https://sr.ht/~sircmpwn/vim-classic/ This is Drew Devault's fork of Vim from around 8.2, before the codebase was tainted by llm commits. I've been using Neovim long enough that I got really used to Lua configuration, so going back to VimScript is a bit jarring. Another issue is that plugins move so fast that older versions just aren't supported, plus the fact that most plugins are targeting Neovim with Vim as just an afterthought, if it's thought of at all. I'm not exactly a fan of having a huge account of plugins to begin with. I mostly want lsp, auto-pairs and completion. So far I've got some lsp integration, with a few languages completely missing, and really wonky completion. I did manage to get auto-pairs working. But this is getting frustrating quickly. The point of the exercise? Both Vim and Neovim are quite happily accepting llm assisted contributions. I'm not really ok with that. It's still shocking to me that maintainers of prominent Free Software projects haven't all come to the obvious conclusion that this is the wrong path.
