Starting to get worried that when the AI bubble pops, all these companies left holding empty AI DCs will try and pivot hard to the “stream your PC from the cloud” model and consumer IT will just start to disappear. https://www.reuters.com/technology/amazon-data-center-unit-acquires-george-washington-university-virginia-campus-2026-03-02/ Is this just an excuse to buy a 48U rack for my garage and start filling it with hardware? … Mayyyyybe :neocat_evil_3c: But it also doesn’t seem that farfetched which is quite depressing.

    @alexhaydock the goal of corporations is to rent-seek on things which consumers cannot afford to own, so I do think you're right to start planning ahead. I purchased hardware in 2024 because of tariffs, long before we ever had a memory/disk war.
