Then, use marker to cross out these. I couldn't use GIMP without Non Destructive Editing(aka Layer Effects), and thankfully it's been implemented in 2.99, and I was finally able to switch by learning and using it for complex projects. It wasn't easy, and there are still things I miss. But when you list out the things you realise it's more manageable then you might initially think.
