I inherited my father in law's excellent dissecting microscope and am enjoying it with abandon!! Voici a view of the surface of one of my seedling pots, complete with a springtail busily going about his important work, eating up (processing) the rotten bits to turn into plant nutrients! Thank you Sir Springtail!!
A happy reminder of the diversity that makes our lives possible.

@emilyvanartist@mastodon.social Oh, that's so great. I have a worm bin that was just exploding with springtails this spring. I would love to watch it under the microscope. But I would also love to have a microscope that is able to see bacteria, protozoa and funghi. It must be so interesting!
