@scottsthoughts@better.boston I think this is largely a function of the new “evolv” scanners proliferating instead of using magnetometers. These things are notorious for false positives so the venues all decided to just implement these absurd bag policies to realize the value of their investment.

@scottsthoughts@better.boston not allowing helmets with no offered storage is something I've dealt with a few times (looking at you TD Garden). If you are on a BlueBike, there isn't even the option to lock it with your bike.

@scottsthoughts@better.boston FUCKING YEP. Around here even some _stores_ try to take our bag. Um, it has our laptop in it, so NO! We just leave and never go there again.

@scottsthoughts@better.boston Another place that's a big issue is supermarkets. You have to bring your own grocery bags, but you can't carry them and other essentials in a backpack? Some chains implement this policy only at their stores where shoppers are most likely to arrive on foot or on a bus... and despite surveillance cameras all over the store that would allow them to easily see if anyone was shoving merchandise into a backpack.
