Anendophasia. I just read this describes those without an inner voice. Most people have an inner voice - half have a low level of inner voice, the other have a very chatty inner voice. Inner voices can help you remember a word sequence, for instance.
I have a very very chatty inner voice who is often very funny and wry and witty. It's why people sometimes say to me "What's so funny!" when nothing is apparently funny on the outside. I shrug, smile, and shrug again.
However, now I have a bone to pick with my inner voice - why do other people's inner voice help them remember word sequences during memory tests, while my inner voice is just fooling around making jokes about memory tests?
