"We show that high temperature extremes and temp-linked measures of water deficit are both changing at a much faster rate than central trends... Crucially, over 700,000 square km in central-north Amazonia have experienced increases in extreme dry season temps ≥ 0.75 °C dec-1 ( ≥ 3.22 °C over 43yrs)."

Are existing deforestation policies offering any protection against forest degradation? Policies aimed at reducing deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon do not reduce logging, fires, or forest fragmentation. Worse, a focus on deforestation alone may be increasing degradation, a form of cross-sector leakage - e.g., driving more investment in logging, rather than clearing. https://link.growkudos.com/1ecojj80utc #landUse #forests #Brazil #Amazon #forestry #logging #wildfires
