The only thing the neighbouring countries can do is arm themselves to the teeth before the next Tsar wannabe comes to power. But I'm afraid we'll repeat the mistakes of the 90s, 00s and 10s when Western politicians thought the threat was over with the collapse of the Soviet Union, so they cut military spending.
