Stuck in analysis paralysis over overcurrent protection for the 12V system in the camper van.
1) I can either use MCBs or blade fuses. I would prefer to use MCBs because they are resetable and I might be a long way from somewhere I can buy a replacement blade fuse.
2) If I use MCBs, I have a maximum of 6 ways. It's an 8 way unit, but I need 2 of them for the solar input.
3) If I use blade fuses, I have a maximum of 8 ways across two fuseholders, but I still need to protect the fuseholders because they have a maximum combined current of 30A each. This means either MCBs or midi fuses upstream of the fuseholders.
4) The main consumers are...
a) 2x Power Pole outlets (max 35A each)
b) Fridge (10A)
c) Lighting (6A)
d) Network (6A)
e) Ventilation (6A)
f) Diesel heater (10A)
g) Water pump (10A)
h) CPAP (6A)
5) The CPAP should be on a dedicated circuit. I don't want a trip elsewhere to cause me a terrible night's sleep. I also don't want a trip to ruin my food, so the fridge should also have a dedicated circuit.
6) While some consumers could share MCBs / fuses, certain combinations are likely to want power at the same time, e.g. water pump and diesel heater because the diesel heater also heats my hot water.
7) Sub-panels are permissible, e.g. I could have a 4-way fuseholder backed by a 30A MCB for the kitchen area, and another 4-way fuseholder towards the back of the van for water, heating and bed area.
