Syncasters were doubleplus insidious. Appearing in the last decade of the Conflict, these biomech passive attack entities would render several km square effectively dead. Dropped into a populated area these units used recently dead gray matter as a neural brown noise weapson. Amplifying and broadcasting the full spectrum of the reactivated brain's misfired synapses into the attack zone. Within days any higher functioning mammal would be reduced to a dysfunctional zombie ready to be invaded and wiped out.
