Once in a while, I get really pissed about where computers have been headed lately. We have devices hundreds of times more powerful than what I used as a kid, and the technology to make modular, lightweight machines with stable operating systems, that we could easily repair and keep with us for a long time. Yet because of fuckin capitalism, we end up with slow-ass, expensive, ad-ridden, buggy programs, and tons and tons of electronic waste. Who cares about sustainability? Who cares about keeping your device fast, predictable, durable, customisable, easy to repair? Who cares about the incredible value of these tools that can make our lives easier? Not corporations, for sure. They ruined most of computing/high-tech by always caring about profits, profits, nothing but profits. Computers kinda suck now, and I&#39;m sad about it.

@equisett@woof.tech the fact the best laptop you can buy is a 2 year old surplus business laptop instead of what's targeted at consumers is a problem too. consumer computers are built like literal dogshit

@equisett@woof.tech Yuuuuup.😮‍💨 When my graphing calculator from high school 2 decades ago has retained more functionality than a smartphone bought 8 yrs ago, you know something's fucked.🫠 I gave up on all big brand phones after failing to repair our iPhones: Androids I could fix, but our Apple devices started to reject replacement parts & would lock if the repair wasn't done by their staff.🙄🔐 My partner & I switched to Fairphone ~8 yrs ago, haven't looked back.👌💚
