Via @susankayequinn which I boosted but there is much more in there...a discussion about the value of AI to people and why it's unpopular.
AI bros don't get this. when the previous disruptions happened - MP3s, YouTube etc there was some benefit for people...not always good as Nilay says about big trucks etc. But with AI the net positives don't outweigh the negatives - people aren't stupid.
They can see this - the unemployment, creative industries laying people off but creating a less good product, environmental costs, launching servers into space (!!) making Kessler syndrome a distinct possibility, the issues with artists and creatives not getting paid, deepfakes, chatbots telling people to kill themselves or commit atrocities...the likelihood of a massive recession when the bubble bursts...the social/economic negatives are endless.
This is offset by a fancy search engine and jumped up autocorrect and Ghibli profile pics.
It's not even close.
