What would it take for the Atomic Desktops to be the default option in Fedora? I tried to answer that question in my talk at this year&#39;s Flock to Fedora conference. @siosm It would be nice if the same object storage could be shared between the host OS, Podman containers and Flatpak. If that will happen, building Flatpaks from the same RPMs used in host and Podman images would maximize deduplication. With zstd:chunked the updates would be more like OSTree's and less like Docker's, right? I.e. no need to download a new layer when just a file changed. Also, wouldn't it be nice if Flatpaks could be built from Containerfiles and distributed using registries?

@siosm I don’t think Fedora should try to compete with downstreams that can ship stuff Fedora cannot. It will always be at a disadvantage there. Instead, I think Fedora would be better off focusing on use-cases that don’t require them.

@Scott_Trakker Impossible to know right now as things are still missing. See the roadmap tracking issue in the SIG repo. Bootc is still using ostree under the hood for now, but we're working on composefs storage (see the other presentation).

@Scott_Trakker The object store in the DevConf.cz presentation is pure composefs. It looks a lot like ostree because they share the same ideas. The plan is to eventually replace ostree completely in bootc.
