  • @dangoodin Did they also publish evidence that their last estimate was wrong? I'm not seeing it in your article or their announcement, but I could be missing something obvious.

  • @dangoodin and do we have any further actual advancements than well, this quantum computer reversed sha1, but with considerably more engineering and compute power than a regular computer doing the same thing? That's the last info I have on the topic, and that's not very impressive. Unless they solved keeping QBits stable for a long enough time which they didn't from what I know, I don't think they can crack even something simple like RSA with a very low key length.

    @dangoodin What's currently the largest number that has actually been factored using a quantum algorithm? So far I know only of absolutely trivial examples. I'm way out of my depth with what Google has produced there but I'd be skeptical of estimates about 2048 bit numbers when not even an 8 bit number has been shown to be feasible.

    @dangoodin What was its real impact on RSA again? I vaguely recall some rambling about it halving its effective security or whatever, but that feels fuzzy.
