About once a decade I decide to try reading literary fiction.
Invariably, it turns out to be a tale of unlikable, broken characters, tormented by fate and human decisions, fecklessly wallowing in their suffering for hundreds of pages.
Give me genre fiction any day.

@peterdrake If I want an unlikable, broken character tormented by fate and human decisions, fecklessly wallowing - there's social media for that.

@peterdrake YES. So much modern lit fic is "miserable rich people" stories. Oh tell me more about your existential angst amid the tennis courts and lunches at the country club. Oh woe! Woe!
