Maybe Trump isn't actually lying his arse off about having had "great" talks with Iran. Maybe his handlers are doing a "Truman Show" thing with him, and getting him on the phone with somebody purporting the be the Great Grand Ayatollah or something, and he genuinely thinks he's been engaging in genuine diplomacy. Considering the unpredictable and unprovoked shit that comes out of his mouth at any given moment, that might be the best way to deal with him when it comes to anything even vaguely important or consequential.
