RE: https://social.ayco.io/@ayo/116269259048212523 My 2 cents: - Some (not all) maintainers have moved on to another platform. To regain interest, maybe implement AP on npmx, or revive Nimbus/tsky within Elk as an AP+AT client? - Elk is more popular than Phanpy & should stay that way; Phanpy is experimental & won’t cover the whole user base. Let Elk take the (2nd) bigger slice of the pie. (1st should be Mastodon Web) - Jeff Atwood’s donation seems focused on porting Elk's UI innovations into Mastodon, which undermines maintaining Elk itself…? 🤔

@cheeaun Thanks Cheeaun -- it amazes me how much we are aligned in vision even from the early days! :)

@cheeaun Elk is really being used more widespread than phanpy? 🤔 Inhowfar do you see phanpy as "experimental"? I use it primarily and love it! Wouldn't see any reason to call it "experimental"!

@cheeaun for me, I've settled into Phanpy. Early days I was using Elk, but it was still missing a few options. I often landed back on the Mastodon Web interface. Eek!  Now I'm on a gotosocial server I needed to find a front end. Phanpy was interesting, and quirky. I stuck with it and now really enjoy the interface. I even throw money at it every month😁  (I try to skip past the 'A minimalistic opinionated Mastodon web client', which should say Fediverse!) Elk is a beautiful product too, but I can't use both. I hope we don't loose it.

  • @cheeaun Elk offers by far the best UX for me. It just needs to be updated with 2-3 current features and it is perfect (for my taste).

@cheeaun Good point about the donation, I don't want to tell anyone what to do with their money, but I'd rather see elk get funded to catch up with mastodon, e.g. one reason I stopped using elk is because it doesn't show quoted posts (like this one), which is confusing, like what are they talking about? Also, it turns out I can only manage two different web clients at a time, which currently is phanpy and nicolium, without getting overwhelmed by tabs.

@cheeaun I really like your experimental take, Chee Aun. Phanpy is my go-to client for everyday Mastodon on mobile and desktop for a couple of weeks now. I love it, but every so often I'm rotating between Phanpy, Elk and the official app. Thanks for putting all of this work into it. 💖
