@foxy 0) In which country are you pursuing your PhD? Germany 1) What is the official duration of your PhD programme? I'm employed by the state for up to 6 years. During this time I will be payed for teaching and research. I can use this time to write my PhD. Does it assume you already have a Master's? Regularly, you need to have a Master's or an equivalent degree to start your PhD at my university. I believe exceptions are possible. 2) How many ECTS are you required to get in order to complete your PhD? Zero. I don't need to take any courses in order to complete my PhD. 3) If you are paid for TAing, can you estimate the number of teaching contact hours you need in order to supplement other sources of funding? Is TAing teaching? I'm supposed to do 4 x 45 min of teaching per week. It's a lot more work though because the teaching needs to be prepared, I'm grading homework, am involved in exams and am organising the teaching. In a bad week this is about 40h of work. During the lecture free period there are weeks when there is almost nothing to do for teaching. I get to use the rest of my time for research and I can use the research for my PhD, if I get it published.
