The EU 🇪🇺 spends ~€264 billion a year on IT, mostly proprietary, cementing exactly the vendor lock-in and dependencies. Its Tech Sovereignty Package positions #FreeSoftware a "first" principle for the upcoming Cloud and AI Development Act #CADA. Now it needs to be binding, not just a suggestion. "Redirecting even half of the money spent on proprietary lock-in to Free Software would boost European tech sovereignty" #publiccode #SoftwareFreedom #DigitalSovereignty

@fsfe@mastodon.social combining Cloud and AI in the same bill is a mistake IMHO

@fsfe@mastodon.social This space was intentionally left blank for “removing MS will destroy the UE”, but it kind of isn't funny, when you've seen even a bit of it. @radpanda@mastodon.com.pl

@fsfe@mastodon.social many of us think "AI" and "FreeSoftware a first principle" aren't suitable for combining in one sentence... https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/2026/01/ai-memorization-research/685552/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvuiSgXfqc4 At least with the current AI that is proprietary and doesn't seem to have comfortably licensed* training data and all that! (*Licensed in a way where plagiarizing without attribution wouldn't feel uncomfortable to so many. I'm not a lawyer, I'm just talking about the social effect.) Would be nice to see you question the AI buildout a bit!
