The cyclist federation of Denmark (Cyklistforbundet) recently started a petition for a nationwide 30km/h urban speed limit proposal. Sadly it seems quite widely opposed. Even by the Danish road safety council (Rådet for sikker trafik), though this sadly isn't a big surprise. The council loves to throw victim blaming rather than fix systemic issues like bad street design. Not helped by the fact that the leader and much of the staff in the council formerly worked for the Police, and in Denmark the police has a veto right to all changes in road design. They've opposed a plethora of speed reductions and traffic calming, including in my home town on stupid grounds, like "Slow downs being unsafe cause they make bumper to bumper crashes more likely". It is absurd!
