The recording members of 𝘈𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘹𝘢𝘴 (Gregg Rolie, David Brown, Michael Shrieve, Jose “Chepito” Areas, and Carlos himself) were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame together in 1998. Blues Traveler’s harmonica player John Popper, inducted them with a decent speech (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBNY-v4GBmY). I’d also recommend their acceptance speech, just to hear Shrieve’s tale on how he got invited to join Carlos Santana’s band based on a jam session at the Fillmore East (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_mS95qv95M). • “Black Magic Woman” was written by Peter Green, the founder and original leader of Fleetwood Mac. The song was originally included on Fleetwood Mac's 1969 compilation album 𝘌𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘩 𝘙𝘰𝘴𝘦, but (obviously) rose to higher fame after Santana’s cover on 𝘈𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘹𝘢𝘴. It’s been said those royalties helped Green live through some real tough times of his own. Peter Green would later join the band to play the hit song at their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction in 1998. (cont)
