@srslypascal To me that only ever made sense for mice that did have an actual middle mouse button. Clicking the wheel just feels wrong. (On my Thinkpad I can't use it either since it's my scroll button for the trackpoint.) I'm wondering if I even used Linux back when there were still mice without scrollwheel. (I started playing around with Linux at the end of the 90s.)
