a lot of people confuse mutual aid with charity and part of that is because of how social media really isn’t amenable to actual mutual aid and alternative support networks but is great for charity.
using social media as a primary form of community feels like a step back from building resilient mutual aid networks.
this isn’t the fault of anyone who uses social media to solicit financial support, or a value judgement on it (you should give if you have the means!). I’m just depressed at the state of things.

@Seirdy@pleroma.envs.net yea mutual aid is like. giving your neighbor your leftover produce before it goes bad since you're not gonna eat it.
